Stamped Wooden Spoons

~Picture Copyright Emily from Embellish the Details~

While on Pinterest, I ran across this cute activity idea.  It was actually a lesson idea - but I thought it would make a cute activity when a cooking class was taught.  I also thought this would be a fun Relief Society activity as well.  On the spoon - stamp whatever you wanted - even a last name into the spoons and give as gifts.  You can get the details here.

Temple Block - Stand ye in Holy Places

You can get details on this wood block on our NEW blog HERE.

You can order the vinyl decal sticker on our new website LDS Sunshine HERE.

This is a wise man!

No Time for Hangman!!  He says it best - just read the blog post HERE.  My favorite part was when he is addressing the youth: "Bring your scriptures to Church. You need them. Preferably hard copy - because you won't be using your iPhone in the mission field."  This is so true!!

*UPDATED* See yourself in the Temple craft

We wanted to update our See yourself in the Temple instructions since we have heard a lot of feedback that 5x7 mirrors are hard to come by.  We now have 5x7 HEAVY MIRROR PAPER.  This is thick paper - like cardstock.  We love this because you can still put it in a frame if you want, but you can just hang it with ribbon, too.  I know - you can call me a genius.

You simply apply the vinyl decal to the mirror paper. Add ribbon.  Done!

So, our decal is available as:
* For a 5"x7" item (it is *NOT* 5"x7" - but sized to FIT on a 5"x7" item)
* For a 5"x7" item, WITH the 5"x7" mirror paper (shown in picture)
* For an 8"x10" item (again, *NOT* 8x10, but sized to fit on an 8"x10" item.)

You can order the decal, and the MIRROR PAPER here.

The Parable of the Pencil

The Parable of the Pencil
Author Unknown

In the beginning, the Pencil Maker spoke to the pencil saying, "There are five things you need to know before I send you out into the world.  Always remember them and you will become the best pencil you can be."

"FIRST - You will be able to do many great things, but only if you allow yourself to be held in someone's hand."

"SECOND - You will experience a painful sharpening from time to time, but this is required if you are to become a better pencil."

"THIRD - You have the ability to correct any mistakes you might make."

"FOURTH - The most important part of you will always be what's inside."

"FIFTH - No matter what the condition, you must continue to write.  You must always leave a clear, legible mark no matter how difficult the situation."

The pencil understood, promising to remember, and went into the box fully understanding its Maker's purpose.

Everyone is like a pencil ... Created by the Maker for a special purpose.

YOU WERE MADE TO DO GREAT THINGS!
(Write your own destiny!)

General Relief Society Meeting - 2012

The view from our seats in the "Terrace"

The General Relief Society Meeting was fabulous.  Hearing from the newly called RS General Presidency was fun.  I am one of those people who actually enjoy change.  Oh - I will miss Julie Beck tremendously!!  But I'm excited for what will come with this new presidency.
A fun picture I tried - took thru binoculars

I took my 17 year old daughter up to the broadcast in the Conference Center.  She is still in young women, will be 18 in November - and plans to stay in YW until she graduates, but I figured - it wouldn't hurt.  She loved it.  While I was there - seeing how much my daughter enjoyed herself - I thought - wouldn't this be a fun tradition (if you are in or close to Utah) to take your Laurels to the broadcast each year?  Spend the day in Salt Lake with them.  Wonder around the city, and temple square.  We didn't have tickets.  We went stand-by ... sort of.  We went and stood on the corner of the Conference Center and someone came and asked if we needed tickets - and gave us some.    I have gone stand-by every other year and have always gotten in - to the YW broadcast, too.  So, taking your Laurels (especially the ones who are Seniors) would be a fun way to introduce them to RS in a totally fun day in Salt Lake, and in the presence of the Prophet.
My daughter and I at the broadcast

You can listen or watch the broadcast again - or for the first time - HERE.

We are all members of the Relief Society - just on special assignment to serve elsewhere.

Letter from future husband

This is a letter from a future husband.  Kind of a fun way to teach standards:

Dearest Dream Girl,

You might not know me yet and I’m not sure I know who you are either, but you and I will be in love someday. I think about you all the time. I wonder about what you look like, what things you like to do, and what it is about you that will make me fall in love with you when I find you.

However, there are a few things that I know about you already; I know that you are a faithful daughter of our Heavenly Father and that you have a testimony of the gospel. I know that temple marriage is one of your goals and you don’t want to settle for less. I know that you are sweet and kind and you are feminine and fun loving.

Although you like to laugh and have a good time, I know you look at life seriously.  Dream Girl, I’m not interested in the girl who gives her lips freely, or the girl who is immodest in dress and conduct. I’m not interested in the girl who changes her standards to fit her company, the girl who can’t see anything wrong with an occasional cigarette, and occasional drink, or an occasional bout of immorality.

I’m not looking for you among questionable company. I’m not looking for you at shady parties because you are not there.

Neither of us are perfect. Yet we will love each other for what we want to be as well as what we are.

And when we both see eye to eye we will kneel hand in hand and seek the inspiration of the Father. There will not be many tomorrow’s until we find each other. I’m waiting anxiously for that day!

Stay sweet and pure because I’ll be looking for you.
Until then, Sweet dreams,
Your Future Husband

Cooking class - you can cook at the Church.

Have you ever wanted to have a food cooking class at the church - but thought "We're not allowed to cook at the church".  Well, guess what?!??!  You actually can if it is a class/lesson.  As I was reading through the Church Handbook today - It says you CAN cook at the church if it is part of a lesson.  Here is the section and what is says:

21.2.11

Serving Areas

The serving area in Church meetinghouses is not intended for food preparation or cooking unless it is part of a lesson, demonstration, or other instruction. When food is to be served in the building or on the grounds, it should be prepared elsewhere and brought to the meetinghouse, where it may be kept warm or cold until it is served.
So - my understanding is if you are having a ward dinner, or such, prepare the items at home and keep warm at the church - BUT if you are having a cooking class, or other such lesson or demonstration, it's okay to cook at the Church.  I still don't think I will be cooking any big meals here, but for cookies, bread, pies, soups, casseroles - maybe a monthly cooking class for Relief Society - this will be awesome!!

Wow - this will be great for future activities.  You can teach the Laurels how to cook right at the CHURCH.  So excited about this!!

The page of the handbook this came out of is here.
